#Reverb10 Day One. One word: Skydiving.

December 1st, 2010 | 6 comments | Skydiving

So, as I was catching up on Google Reader, I stumbled across Grace’s post for this #Reverb10 thingie.

This is day one of Reverb10. The gig? Each day, there’s a prompt that everyone responds to. You can tweet it, blog it, tumblr it, paint it, graffiti it, twitpic it, whatever. I’m number 846 to sign up – this thing is freakin’ massive. Every day I will be posting here or tweeting my answer to the prompt in order to reflect and manifest for the future. Last time I did a blog challenge was in February, so I figure it’s high time for me to get on the wagon and see if I can post every day.

Plus there are a ton of super-cool peeps that are participating, and there’s a sweet little community building around it. Since I’m actually starting to feel settled in Austin, I figured now was as good a time as any to hop on board with something new and commitment-like. We’ll see how this goes.

Today’s Prompt: One Word. Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you?

My word: Skydiving.

Total Freedom

Total. Freedom.

Shocking, I know.

But seriously – it started in March, and really kicked into high gear in June. Skydiving has most definitely changed my life; how I look at life, what I want to do in life, and how I actually live it on a minute-to-minute, day-to-day basis.

Skydiving has introduced me to new philosophies, new ways to spend money, new people, and has, partially, played a role in me relocating to warmer weather this year.

I anticipate my word for 2011 will be Freedom.

I want to do enough jumps earn my coach rating so I can teach new jumpers how to skydive (after they learn the hard stuff from the AFF instructors, I’ll just teach them skills after they’re already safe up there). I’m not even close to being good enough yet, but that’s the goal for 2011 as it pertains to skydiving. Eventually, I want to be an AFF instructor, but that will come with time.

Why “Freedom” then? Because skydiving has opened up a door for me that I didn’t know existed. To a world that I had no idea would shape my life the way it has. And the only way I can start to describe it is total freedom. And as I start 2011 with my coach’s rating in mind, I hope to pass it on. I want to get new people into the sport. To open up the same doors for them that were opened for me this summer.

Freedom! Woo!

Check out all of the rockin’ awesomesauce that is Reverb10 and join up!

So, what’s your word for 2010?

Oh, I love “freedom” as a word for the next year :-) I often feel too many people are afraid to let themselves be free, so I’m happy to see you committed to it!
