If you're not meeting resistance, then you're not creating enough of a difference. I thought your tweets from that session were annoying as hell. But that's ok. I'm not your intended audience.

Be yourself, no matter what. Don't ever try to be everything to everyone.

Dude, I love this! (Also, is it weird that I'm commenting on your blog while you sit next to me? No? Good.)

Seriously - Peter's panel yesterday was awesome, and whether or not you're new or "old" to the space and social media, reminders about simply being helpful and polite - well, we can all use those reminders no matter how advanced or new in our careers. Well put, girlfriend.

Interesting topic. Its obvious that we cant please everyone and we definitely shouldn't aim to. As soon as you start trying to please the masses you will find yourself losing that passion. With that said however, we constantly discuss the importance of balance. Isn't being balanced just another way of saying please everyone?

PS: Didn't make it down to #SXSW but I did happen to come across a lot of your tweets during the self promotion presentation. Yes, I admit I was re-tweeting with envy!

Great post Sydney..

Really good stuff here Sydney. What I've come to find is that what may be common sense for one audience may be truly innovative for another. I'm working on a workshop directed toward small businesses & nonprofits that is VERY much 101 and "common sense" for folks like us - but for others, it's totally innovative. I see it every single day with the client's I'm working with. As I walk them through Wordpress, showing them that, get this, they can actually change text on a page, add a picture, etc - something they were never able to do before with their old website. It's common sense - borderline mind-numbing to me - but for them, something amazing and innovative that they weren't able to do before.

It's all about perspective - it's all about knowing your audience - and catering your content and approach to them.

Well said - Peter is a smart dude (saw him speak at the MarketingProf event last year here in Chicago. Hope you're having a blast at SXSW.
