What I’m looking forward to in 2010

Nice to see you again. Follow me, @SydneyOwen. Thanks for being here!

Happy New Year everyone!

Here’s a quick look at what I’m looking forward to for 2010:

  • Cruise in January - I haven’t been on an actual vacation since 2007, so this is going to be well-deserved and VERY relaxing/awesome/partycentral/educational. My dad has organized a group of 50+ 60-somethings and I’ll be teaching them how to use Facebook to stay in touch with each other and with their grandkids, etc. Should be a blast!
  • SXSW in March – I’ll be speaking with four fabulous Gen-Y’ers about why we want to work “with” you vs. working “for” you on Monday during the interactive portion of the conference. I’m also excited to catch up with some great people like Aaron while I’m down there. This will be a super week for me, as SXSW09 is where things really cranked up for me and started getting really awesome.
  • My 25th Birthday – June 3rd marks my quarter-century mark on this planet. Location of the celebration is yet to be determined – but in the mean time, I am working on my list of 25 things I want to do while I’m 25 – so if you have any suggestions, let me know!
  • My one-year anniversary with Chicago, and with Weber – so much has happened in the past 6 months since I moved here – I’ll be excited to see where I am 6 months from now, both personally and professionally.
  • Meeting more amazing people - 2009 was a networking sensation – I can’t wait to meet more smart people in 2010! If you’re ever in the Chicago area and want to grab coffee – you know how to reach me. I’d love to meet you!
  • Continuing to mentor students – I’ve had a blast mentoring students from USF and all over the country as I’ve made this transition from college to corporate. I’ll be writing about that more in the new year as some of the students I’m mentoring graduated in December and some are set to graduate this spring. If you’re a college student and/or a recent grad – is there anything you’d like for me to write about specifically? I’m open to suggestions and excited to help you with your journey!

Thanks for being here, it’s been a crazy ride so far. Looking forward to connecting with all of you more and I’m excited to see what 2010 has in store!

What are you looking forward to in 2010?

  • Amazing blog post :)
I am really enjoying your blog and it is too bad I haven't been in Chicago since 2002 or else I would say we should meet up ASAP! I love your writing style, and look forward to great posts to keep coming from you :)

Very admirable goals. The older I get, the more I believe in the power of goal setting. So often we forget to reflect upon our own lives, and make sure we are on the right track.
  • Awesome idea about helping the older folk overcome their fear of technology and realize that today's tools can bring them even closer to their kids and grandkids. I have a prediction that this is going to take off bigger than you think.

SXSW- looking forward to going and of course saying a quick hello to my mentor who taught me all I know about SM :)

I've given up on projecting out too far, I just end up doing shit that is so different than from what I had planned. Now days I plan out 21 days in advance and that's it...and even then all kinds of wild stuff happens.

alrighty, happy new year, and I'm happy to be along for the ride of your life. it's kinda interesting ;)
  • Have fun teaching Facebook on the cruise. Should be fun!!

Hopefully I will end up in Chicago soon or at least in time to visit. I am hoping to have my freelance business up and running seriously. I was not acting on it full time but I am passionate about a few things and if I can make it work! I could be up to something!

Have fun at SxSW! I want to go but not in my budget.

I'm trying to make it to SXSW this year, we'll have to connect!
  • I'm looking to meeting you at SxSW if not sooner! AH! Oh, and moving to Colorado THIS WEEK, launching my freelance career, taking the next steps in yoga instruction, and you know, basically taking over the world. CHEERS to us!
  • I'm looking forward to growing my web interview series Beyond The Pedway into a full time career. I'm also looking forward to meeting more new people, creating new business opportunities, and continuing to learn. Still can't believe 2000 was 10 years ago!
