Nice to see you again. Follow me, @SydneyOwen. Thanks for being here!
Being true to my word – I went out and did something I’ve never done before. An alumni gathering. When it comes to school stuff – I always had it easy. I was a cheerleader, so naturally, I knew people because I represented our school all over town. I was in PRSSA, which connected me with classmates, and by the time you get through your education in PR at USF, you’re all family anyway. So for me to go to a gathering of people I didn’t even know existed was a huge victory.
It was actually the perfect scenario. The Bulls were playing, and the Chicago alumni chapter watches the games at Gamekeepers – one of my favorite bars here. So I was already comfortable with where the event was taking place – the only thing foreign was the people that were there.
There was an awesome mix of alumni at the bar. Some older, some my age – it was awesome. The chapter President works for Nielsen and was a cheerleader and on an all-star team in high school so naturally we got along. She also told me that we have 1,200 alumni in Chicago and that about 90 of those are on the mailing list and regularly attend events. So I automatically have something in common with 1,200 people.
I’ve also finally joined a gym here. When I first moved here I was outside all the time after work and on the weekends so it wasn’t too big of a deal for me not to have a membership -but four months without a real workout is long enough. So I started back up yesterday and even went this morning before work.
The guy at Bally says that it’s packed 5-8 with the after work rush, so I decided to go this morning so that if I can’t get in on the yoga class tonight at least I will have already done SOMETHING.
That first time that I work out at a new gym is always scary. Mostly because by the first time I work out – I’m so stressed about how I’ve let myself go and I’m so excited to get back to where I am when I’m in shape. But yesterday and today weren’t scary. Tonight at yoga might be. I haven’t been to an actual class in four months – I’ll probably be a bit wobbly.
Did you do anything outside of your comfort zone this weekend? If you work out – do you prefer to do it before or after work? Or do you do both?
