I am done with college (!!!!)

July 11th, 2009 | 10 comments | Social Media

I just clicked “submit” for my final discussion board post for my last class at USF.

I am done with college.

The feeling is like automatic weight-loss. All the years of wondering if I’d ever finish have finally come to a halt with a resounding “YES!!” No more counting down semesters, no more “first days” in the classroom. No more teachers yelling “BONGA!” (thank you, Intro to Chem). No more spending copious amounts of money on textbooks to get only $15 back at the end of the semester.

I did it.

I finished the course a week ahead of schedule. I’ll be out of town when the assignment is due next week so I figured why have to worry? Get it done now. I also turned in my last paper early for the same reason last week.

I think I’m setting the pace for what will prove to be an exciting journey into my new life here in Chicago. A fresh start. Clean slate. Huge city. Endless possibilities.

Now, instead of college “firsts”, I’ll have my grown-up firsts. First day on a new account, first day getting lost (already did that one), first day getting a ticket for not moving my car during street cleaning (I’m scared to go look because I think it happened while I was out of town), and I’m sure a bunch more.

Tomorrow? My first Cubs game. Monday? My first trip to NYC.

I’m done with college. What’s next?

Dude. So excited for you! :) Strangely enough, I thought it would feel amazing the second I finished my last assignment, but I didn’t feel much of anything. I was dead tired after staying up 2 nights in a row to write 3 papers and I thought when I dropped them all off in the poli sci office and walked away it would be such a load off, but I think I was too dazed to actually feel anything. I will probably never forget that strange moment though. It’s a good one :) Congrats!! Isn’t it nice being done?

Congratulations! It was great meeting you last weekend. You are on a great path working with smart, inspired people. I have no doubt many you will have exciting firsts in the coming year.

Congratulations! You’ve got a big adventure ahead of you! I’m just a month behind you – I’m doing my senior design project and working P/T then I’ll be done. I had the same kind of weird anticlimactic moment when I did the graduation ceremony in May. It was like I was cheating because I hadn’t finished yet. I felt pretty blasé about the whole thing, but I’m starting to savor it more now – though, to be honest, I’d much rather have my full job offer (coming soon!) than the diploma, but regardless, it will be good to be done.

P.S. The gf and I called off our Chicago trip for September, but we’ll probably look at doing it in the Spring. Have fun!

Congratulations (almost) David! Can’t wait to hear about everything that life has in store for you.

I’ll probably see you again before you come up here, keeping my fingers crossed for SXSW this year.

I’m so glad we connected! And I’m so glad your business card had your avatar on it. That’s brilliant! Now, if I could just remember when I started following you. I’m sure it was something Chicago-related. Regardless, great to put a face to a shoe, and have an awesome time at BlogHer!
