What… a whirlwind

Nice to see you again. Follow me, @SydneyOwen. Thanks for being here!

Any of you that have been following my Twitter will know that things have been a bit topsy-turvy lately.

It’s the end of the semester, which means I’m about $2300 short for next semester.  It’s the end of the semester which means my workload is insane.  I was under the impression senior year was supposed to be a cake walk?  Not the case here.  Between a full course load, my sweet internship and slinging drinks, I feel like I’m spread pretty thin.  Which, would explain, the soldier being introduced into my life.

Not one to publicize my relationships for millions (I wish there were millions reading this), I’ll keep him named the soldier.  The soldier came back from Iraq in June and is the younger brother of my roommmate’s boyfriend.  ::pause for connection::  Ahh.  Yes.  So this last week, almost two weeks since the inception of the soldier as a love interest has been quite a whirlwind.

Let me set the stage.  Roommate’s birthday was last Monday, and the soldier came down to celebrate.  I had declared my lack of time and interest in someone to my roommate prior to him showing up but when he did, that all went out the window.  My skinnier nemesis had also found the soldier attractive, but knowing I have a leg up on her in the humor department, I started racking my brain for the “line” that would ultimately decide my fate in the matter.

I needed something quirky and hilarious, something that wasn’t too corny, but corny enough to crack a smile if nothing else.  I found my moment.  In a high-school-esque battle, my roommate and the solider went to rival high schools and were taking jabs at each other as if they both were still in HS.  When the soldier mentioned that his school had the “boot”, a prized rivalry possession, all four years he was playing, I turned to him and delivered my victory line:

Me: “So, does your back hurt?”

Soldier: “from what?”

Me: “single-handedly carrying the team for four years?”

Soldier: paying attention now.

So after I nailed my segue into conversation, we talked.  Forever.  We were up well past the normal business hours of the bar and into the morning talking about anything and everything.

We talked about his tour in Iraq, politics, religion, all the topics you are definitely supposed to avoid when you first meet someone.  The intensity of the conversation and our time together in general continued through the week and weekend, and into the beginning of this week.

Where is it going?  I’m not entirely sure, but I like it.

The end of the semester is coming which means there is a forecast of a lull in blogging followed by a flood of blogging after finals.

Keep your fingers crossed, I’m only a semester away from being a degree-holding citizen of the world!
